Samantha Plush is an Accredited Practising Dietitian who specialises in functional gastrointestinal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, dietary management of liver diseases and nutrition support for people undergoing cancer treatments. She also has a particular interest in body composition assessment to inform individualised dietary prescriptions to improve health, muscle strength and overall well-being.
Samantha completed her training at Flinders University in Adelaide and started her career working in Orange, NSW within public hospitals and private clinics. Samantha has been practicing as an acute care dietitian since 2010 across the clinical areas of oncology, gastroenterology, renal and critical care nutrition and has experience working with adults, children and babies. Samantha was recently awarded a collaborative research grant to establish a dietitian-led functional gastrointestinal disorder clinic at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide in conjunction with the University of South Australia and The Hospital Research Foundation and is currently undertaking her PhD in the diet-led management of functional gastrointestinal disorders and advanced nutrition assessment of gastrointestinal diseases.

Samantha is highly experienced in using therapeutic diets for a range of gastrointestinal conditions. These include irritable bowel syndrome and FODMAP therapy, troublesome altered bowel habits including proximal constipation, gastroparesis and slow gut motility. Samantha is also trained in using elimination diets for the management of eosinophillic oesophagitis.
Inflammatory bowel diseases
Samantha has a particular interest in dietary therapies for Crohn's disease and is highly experienced in working alongside Gastroenterologists and Colorectal Surgeons to prescribe exclusive enteral nutrition therapy to improve inflammation and possibly avoid surgery. Samantha is passionate about helping people with inflammatory bowel disease manage functional gastrointestinal symptoms when inflammation is present or in remission.
Liver diseases
Samantha has a particular interest in advanced body composition assessment techniques to inform dietary modifications that can be used to improve liver function and health. Samantha is currently undertaking research analysing computed-tomography scans to assess body composition and is passionate about supporting people to eat the right diet to improve overall nutritional status which includes the Mediterranean diet, high protein no added salt dietary therapies and amino acid supplementation for dietary management of liver diseases (including NAFLD, NASH, PSC and advanced liver disease).
Oncology
Samantha has many years experience working with people undergoing cancer treatment. She works closely with oncologists and surgeons to support clients to optimise what they eat during chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy and surgical treatments. She has detailed understanding of how treatment cause nutrition impact symptoms. Samantha is able to provide strategies to manage symptoms to support clients through their treatment in the best possible nutrition status.

Samantha enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is an avid cook and loves baking, as well as spending time at the beach or outdoors in linear park.
